What is pancreatic polypeptide?
Pancreatic polypeptide is a 36-residue amidated peptide released from specialised islet cells. It adopts the PP-fold hairpin structure shared with neuropeptide Y and peptide YY, and is reported to act preferentially at the Y4 receptor subtype.
Why is it studied?
Published work associates pancreatic polypeptide with vagally driven postprandial secretion, gastrointestinal motility, exocrine pancreatic responses and satiety in animal models. It is also a standard reference ligand when researchers characterise selectivity among Y receptor subtypes in binding assays.
Which species variants are available?
Human, rat and avian pancreatic polypeptide are the usual catalog entries, and their sequences differ enough that species matching matters for antibodies and assays. Amidated and free-acid C-terminal fragments are also supplied for structure-activity and epitope work.
