Overview

Selank + Semax Dissolving Strips deliver two well-characterised research heptapeptides in a pre-measured thin-film matrix rather than a vial of lyophilized powder. Each pack contains 20 individual film strips. The film is a water-soluble polymer sheet in which the peptide load is dispersed at a fixed amount per strip, so a study arm can be set up by counting strips instead of weighing powder, calculating a dilution and sterile-filtering a solution.

The two actives are Selank (CAS 129954-34-3, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) and Semax (CAS 80714-61-0, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro). Both are short synthetic peptides built by extending a natural bioactive fragment — tuftsin for Selank, the ACTH(4–10) fragment for Semax — with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro tail that resists exopeptidase cleavage. Both are freely water-soluble, which is what makes them suitable candidates for a dissolving-film carrier: the strip disperses in aqueous media and releases its load without an organic solvent step.

Research interest in the pairing comes from their complementary mechanistic literatures. Semax dominates work on BDNF and NGF expression, TrkB signalling and attention or memory paradigms; Selank dominates work on GABA-A receptor subunit expression, enkephalin-degrading enzyme inhibition and stress-response gene expression. The film format is studied mainly as a handling and format-comparison variable rather than for any biological property of its own. Supplied for laboratory research use only.

Research Overview

Why a film format is studied at all

Thin-film carriers are a pharmaceutical-technology research area in their own right. A polymer sheet loaded with active material dissolves on contact with an aqueous phase, which removes the weighing, solvent-addition, mixing and filtration steps that a lyophilized vial requires. For a laboratory the practical consequence is fewer sources of between-session variance and no cold chain for the sealed pack. Film disintegration rate, load uniformity and matrix stability are the endpoints that dissolving-strip research actually measures.

The Selank component

Selank is the Pro-Gly-Pro-stabilised analogue of tuftsin, the tetrapeptide released from the IgG heavy chain. Rodent studies have reported anxiolytic-type behaviour in elevated plus maze and open field paradigms without the sedation or motor impairment characteristic of benzodiazepine comparators. Mechanisms under investigation include GABA-A receptor subunit expression, inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes and altered expression of inflammatory and stress-related genes.

The Semax component

  • Reported increases in BDNF and NGF expression in rodent hippocampus and cortex.
  • Changes in TrkB receptor signalling associated with synaptic plasticity endpoints.
  • Shifts in dopaminergic and serotonergic turnover in frontal and striatal tissue.
  • Attention, learning-acquisition and memory-retention behavioural tasks.

Handling & Storage

Keep the pack sealed, cool and dry, away from direct light and humidity — thin-film matrices are hygroscopic and will tack or curl if exposed to ambient moisture. Remove one strip at a time with clean dry forceps or gloved dry hands and reseal the pack immediately; a strip taken out and left on the bench absorbs water and is no longer a reliable unit. For dispersion work, drop the strip into the aqueous medium and allow it to dissolve without stirring aggressively. Log the lot number against your COA before recording results, and dispose of unused strips under your institution's chemical waste procedure.

Selank + Semax Dissolving Strips FAQ

How many strips are in a pack?
Twenty individual thin-film strips, each carrying a fixed pre-measured load of both Selank and Semax. Because the amount per strip is set at manufacture, study arms can be assembled by counting strips rather than weighing powder and calculating a dilution.
Are the peptides third-party tested, and is a COA available?
Yes. Both Selank and Semax raw materials are third-party analysed by HPLC to ≥99% purity with mass-spectrometry identity confirmation, and a lot-matched Certificate of Analysis is available for the batch. Match the pack lot to the COA before logging data.
Do the strips need reconstitution?
No. That is the point of the format. The film dissolves directly in aqueous media, so there is no weighing, solvent addition, mixing or filtration step and no bacteriostatic water to source. It also means the sealed pack needs no cold chain.
How should the strips be stored?
Sealed, cool and dry, protected from light and moisture. Humidity is the main enemy of a thin-film matrix — exposed strips become tacky and lose their handling properties. Remove one at a time with dry gloves or forceps and reseal the pack immediately.
Why are Selank and Semax combined?
Their research literatures are complementary — Semax is associated with BDNF, neurotrophin and attention work, Selank with GABAergic and stress-response work — while both are small, water-soluble Pro-Gly-Pro-stabilised heptapeptides that load into a film matrix well.
