What is relaxin?
Relaxin is a two-chain peptide hormone of the insulin superfamily, built from an A chain and a B chain linked by disulfide bonds. Human relaxin 2 is the principal circulating form and acts mainly through the RXFP1 receptor in published studies.
Why are single chains and mini-relaxins offered?
Full activity generally requires the correctly folded two-chain structure, so isolated chains and truncated constructs are used to map which residues drive receptor binding. They serve as structure-activity probes and controls rather than as substitutes for intact relaxin.
What research areas use relaxin?
Reported effects on collagen turnover, vascular tone and renal function make it common in fibrosis, cardiovascular and renal cell models. Reproductive biology also uses it, reflecting its described roles in connective tissue remodelling during pregnancy in animal studies.
