What is LL-37?
LL-37 is the 37-residue antimicrobial peptide released from the C-terminus of the human cathelicidin precursor hCAP18. It is the only cathelicidin-derived peptide identified in humans and forms an amphipathic helix in membrane-mimicking conditions.
Why is LL-37 researched?
It is studied for broad in vitro activity against bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses, generally attributed to membrane disruption, and for reported immunomodulatory effects including chemotaxis, cytokine modulation and involvement in wound repair models.
Why are tyrosine-extended variants supplied?
LL-37 lacks a convenient site for radioiodination, so variants such as [Tyr0]-LL-37 add an N-terminal tyrosine. This permits I-125 labelling for binding and tracing experiments while leaving the native sequence otherwise unchanged.
