Glucose-Dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) — frequently asked

What is GIP?
GIP is a 42-residue gut peptide of the glucagon/secretin superfamily, reported to be secreted by intestinal K cells after nutrient intake. With GLP-1 it makes up the incretin axis that is widely studied in islet and metabolic research.
Why are [D-Ala2] analogues used?
Native GIP carries alanine at position 2 and is readily cleaved by dipeptidyl peptidase-4. Substituting D-alanine slows that cleavage, giving a more stable research tool for receptor and cell-based experiments where the native peptide degrades quickly.
Which species variants are available?
Human, porcine and rat GIP are the common options, along with truncated GIP (3-42). Sequence differences between species can affect antibody recognition and receptor potency, so reagents are usually matched to the experimental model being used.
