What is dynorphin?
Dynorphin is a family of endogenous opioid peptides processed from prodynorphin. Dynorphin A, dynorphin B and big dynorphin are the principal members, and all share the N-terminal tyrosine-glycine-glycine-phenylalanine sequence common to opioid peptides.
Which receptor does dynorphin act on?
Dynorphin A is usually described as preferring the kappa opioid receptor, with lower reported affinity at mu and delta receptors. Some studies additionally describe naloxone-insensitive effects, which are generally attributed to non-opioid mechanisms.
How are dynorphin fragments used in research?
Shorter fragments such as dynorphin A (1-8) and (1-13) are used to map which part of the sequence supports binding or a given response. They also serve as calibrators and immunogens where antibodies must distinguish processing products.
