What is vaspin?
Vaspin is a serpin superfamily protein, designated SERPINA12, that is described as an adipokine. It was originally identified in visceral adipose tissue of a rodent model of obesity and diabetes, and human expression has since been reported.
What does vaspin inhibit?
As a serpin it is reported to act on serine proteases through the standard suicide-substrate mechanism, with kallikrein 7 proposed as a physiological target. Other candidate substrates have been suggested, so protease selectivity remains an open research question.
What are the fragment peptides used for?
They correspond to defined regions of the human sequence and serve mainly as immunogens, blocking peptides for antibody validation, and reference standards. Labeled purified IgG antibodies raised against them support immunofluorescence and immunohistochemical detection.
