Vasohibin (VASH1 / VASH2) — frequently asked

What are vasohibins?
Vasohibins are a small protein family made up of VASH1 and VASH2, usually studied together with their binding partner SVBP. VASH1 was first described in endothelial cells as a feedback regulator induced by pro-angiogenic signals.
Why do vasohibins appear in cytoskeletal research?
Later reports identified the vasohibin-SVBP complex as a tubulin carboxypeptidase that removes the C-terminal tyrosine of alpha-tubulin. That modification is linked in the literature to microtubule stability and spindle behaviour, placing these proteins in cytoskeletal studies too.
Why do many peptides carry an added cysteine?
A [Cys0] residue at the N-terminus provides a defined thiol for conjugating the peptide to a carrier protein or a solid support. This is standard practice when the peptide is used as an immunogen or for affinity purification of antibodies.
