TNF Superfamily & TRAIL — frequently asked

What does this family cover?
It covers synthetic peptides derived from tumour necrosis factor superfamily members, predominantly TRAIL. Products are supplied as defined residue ranges of the parent sequence rather than as full-length recombinant ligands.
Can these peptides replace recombinant TRAIL?
Generally no. TNF superfamily ligands are reported to act as trimers, and activity depends on oligomerisation and folding. Linear fragments are best used as antigens, epitope-mapping tools or interaction probes rather than functional ligand substitutes.
Why is TRAIL studied?
TRAIL is examined for its reported ability to trigger apoptosis through death receptors while being modulated by decoy receptors. This selectivity has made it a long-standing subject in cell death, caspase signalling and immune regulation research.
