Survivin (Apoptosis Inhibitor, BIRC5) — frequently asked

What is survivin?
Survivin is the smallest inhibitor of apoptosis family protein, encoded by BIRC5. It carries a single baculoviral IAP repeat domain, works as a homodimer, and is reported to act largely through partner interactions rather than direct caspase inhibition.
Why is survivin researched?
It is studied both as a regulator of apoptosis and as a chromosomal passenger complex member involved in mitosis. Its low expression in most adult tissue but high expression in many tumour samples has also made it a frequent subject in oncology and tumour immunology research.
What are the listed peptides used for?
Human fragments such as (17-34), (84-110) and the cysteinylated (123-142) peptide serve as immunogens, blocking peptides and antibody validation controls. The shorter survivin 2B (80-88) sequence is a defined epitope peptide used in cellular immunology assays.
