What is spexin?
Spexin, also known as neuropeptide Q, is a fourteen-residue amidated peptide identified by genome-wide bioinformatic screening. It is cleaved from a prepro-spexin precursor and is generally classified with the galanin family of neuropeptides.
Which receptors does spexin act on?
Published work describes spexin as a preferential ligand at galanin receptor subtypes GalR2 and GalR3, with much weaker activity at GalR1. This selectivity is one reason it is studied alongside galanin and galanin-like peptide in receptor assays.
Which species variants are available?
The mature peptide is highly conserved, so human, rat, mouse and bovine sequences are usually supplied as a single product. Species-specific prepro-spexin fragments, such as human prepro-spexin (36-58), are offered for antibody generation.
