SPAR Micropeptide — frequently asked

What is the SPAR micropeptide?
SPAR is a short polypeptide translated from a transcript originally classified as a long non-coding RNA. It is one of a growing set of micropeptides identified when small open reading frames within such transcripts were systematically re-evaluated.
What is SPAR reported to do?
Published studies describe association with the lysosomal v-ATPase complex and a resulting influence on mTORC1 activation during amino acid sensing, with related observations in muscle injury models. The literature remains limited, so these findings should be regarded as provisional.
Why do human and mouse fragments differ?
The reading frames differ in length between species, and human entries are listed as isoform 2. Residue numbering therefore does not translate directly, so the fragment should be chosen to match the species and isoform used in the experiment.
