What is proSAAS?
proSAAS is a granin-like precursor protein encoded by PCSK1N and expressed widely in neuroendocrine tissue. Processing in secretory granules generates named fragments such as little SAAS, PEN, LEN and KEP, many of which are offered here as defined synthetic sequences.
Why is proSAAS studied?
Its reported inhibition of prohormone convertase 1/3 links it directly to how other neuropeptides are matured. Additional published work on chaperone-like activity and on feeding behaviour in rodents has broadened interest in the precursor and its individual fragments.
Why are so many overlapping fragments listed?
Processing produces several partially overlapping products, and residue numbering is the clearest way to specify which one a study used. Overlapping synthetic fragments let researchers match peptidomic observations, raise region-specific antibodies and calibrate immunoassays accurately.
