Antho-RWamides — frequently asked

What are Antho-RWamides?
Antho-RWamides are short amidated neuropeptides first isolated from sea anemones of the genus Anthopleura. They are named for the arginine-tryptophan-amide motif at their C-terminus, and the two main members are Antho-RWamide I and Antho-RWamide II.
Why are they researched?
They are studied in comparative neurobiology as examples of neuropeptide signalling in an early-diverging animal lineage. Reported myoactive effects on anemone muscle preparations make them useful tools for invertebrate physiology and peptide evolution research.
Why are substituted analogs offered?
Analogs replacing single residues, such as alanine, lysine or glutamate substitutions, let researchers test which positions contribute to activity. Comparing them with the native sequence supports systematic structure-activity work in invertebrate assay systems.
