What is resistin?
Resistin is a small cysteine-rich secreted protein, the founding member of the resistin-like molecule or FIZZ family. It forms disulfide-linked multimers and was named for early rodent observations linking it to reduced insulin sensitivity.
Does human resistin behave like mouse resistin?
Not identically. In mice the protein is produced mainly by adipocytes, whereas human resistin comes largely from monocytes and macrophages. Human work therefore focuses more on inflammatory and vascular signalling, and cross-species extrapolation requires caution.
What formats are available?
Recombinant human and mouse proteins are used for cell treatment experiments, while synthetic fragments covering defined regions serve as immunogens, blocking peptides and assay standards. Matching antibodies and immunoassay kits support detection and quantification.
