What is prolactin-releasing peptide?
PrRP is an amidated neuropeptide identified as a ligand for the receptor GPR10, also called PrRPR. It circulates as a 31-residue form and a shorter 20-residue form that share the same C-terminus, which is reported to be essential for receptor activation.
Does PrRP actually release prolactin?
It was named for that reported effect in pituitary cell preparations, but subsequent studies described the response as modest and dependent on experimental context. Most current research instead examines central roles in feeding, energy balance, stress responses and cardiovascular regulation.
Which species variants are available?
Human and rat PrRP-31 and PrRP-20 sequences are the main listings, supplied unlabeled or with biotin, fluorescent and radioiodine labels. The human and rat sequences differ at several positions, so antibody and immunoassay cross-reactivity should be confirmed for the species under study.
