Programmed Cell Death Protein 1 (PD-1) — frequently asked

What is PD-1?
PD-1 is an immunoglobulin superfamily cell surface receptor encoded by the PDCD1 gene and expressed on activated T cells and other lymphocytes. Its cytoplasmic tail carries tyrosine-based motifs that recruit phosphatases when the receptor is engaged.
Why is PD-1 so widely studied?
Because engagement of the receptor dampens antigen receptor signalling, it functions as a checkpoint restraining lymphocyte activation. This makes it central to research on T cell exhaustion, chronic infection models, peripheral tolerance and tumour immunology.
Are these peptides blocking reagents?
No. The listed items are short synthetic sequences intended as immunogens, antibody-validation blocking peptides and assay antigens. They are not folded receptor domains or antibodies and should not be expected to interfere with ligand binding.
