What is pancreastatin?
Pancreastatin is an amidated peptide released by proteolytic processing of chromogranin A. It was first isolated from porcine pancreas, and it is studied as one of several biologically active fragments derived from that secretory granule protein.
Why do pancreastatin sequences differ by species?
Chromogranin A itself is poorly conserved outside a few defined regions, so the pancreastatin segment differs in length and composition between pig, human and rat. Peptides and antibodies are therefore listed by species and should be matched to the model.
What is pancreastatin used for in research?
It is applied in isolated islet and cell preparations to examine reported effects on insulin secretion and metabolic signalling, and it serves as a standard, immunogen or tracer in immunoassays measuring chromogranin A derived peptides in biological samples.
