What does this family contain?
It groups neuropeptides studied mainly outside standard mammalian systems, including molluscan FMRFamide, cnidarian head activator peptide, and insect neuropeptide hormones such as hypertrehalosaemic factors. The grouping reflects comparative research use rather than a shared receptor or precursor.
What is FMRFamide?
FMRFamide is a C-terminally amidated tetrapeptide originally isolated as a molluscan cardioexcitatory factor. It gave its name to a large group of FMRFamide-like peptides described across many invertebrate phyla and widely used in comparative neurotransmission research.
Why are [Tyr0] versions offered?
Adding an N-terminal tyrosine provides a site for radioiodination or similar labelling while leaving the native sequence intact. These analogues are used chiefly to prepare tracers for receptor binding studies and radioimmunoassays in invertebrate tissue preparations.
