What is neuropeptide B?
Neuropeptide B is a brain peptide most often supplied as the 29-residue NPB-29, cleaved from a prepro-neuropeptide B precursor. The native form is reported to carry a brominated tryptophan at its N-terminus, an unusual modification among mammalian peptides.
Which receptors does it act on?
It is generally described, along with neuropeptide W, as an endogenous ligand for the G protein-coupled receptors NPBW1 and NPBW2, previously called GPR7 and GPR8. Receptor complement differs between species, which complicates direct rodent-to-human comparison.
Why are des-bromo analogs supplied?
Des-bromo analogs lack the reported N-terminal bromination of the native peptide, so researchers use them as comparators to test whether that modification affects receptor binding, potency or stability in a given in vitro assay system.
