Neuroendocrine Protein 7B2 (SCG5) — frequently asked

What is neuroendocrine protein 7B2?
7B2, the product of the SCG5 gene, is a granin-family protein in the regulated secretory pathway of neurons and endocrine cells. It is processed into an N-terminal domain and a C-terminal peptide, both of which are represented in this catalog family.
Why is 7B2 studied?
It functions as a binding protein and chaperone for prohormone convertase 2, assisting folding and transport of the enzyme while a segment of its C-terminal peptide inhibits PC2 activity. This places 7B2 centrally in neuropeptide maturation research.
Which species sequences are offered?
Human, rat, mouse and porcine fragments are listed, with several sequences conserved well enough to be shared across species. Residue numbering identifies the region targeted, which matters when distinguishing precursor from processed forms in the same sample.
