Myomixer (Myomerger / Minion) — frequently asked

What is myomixer?
Myomixer, also called myomerger or minion, is a small muscle-specific membrane protein encoded by a short open reading frame. Published work describes it as acting with myomaker to drive fusion of myoblasts into multinucleated myotubes during muscle formation.
Why are overlapping fragments offered?
The protein is short, so fragments such as residues 24-65, 52-84 and 61-84 cover much of its length with overlap. Comparing them helps identify which regions are antigenic and accessible, and supports mapping of antibody reactivity across the sequence.
How do human and mouse versions differ?
The two sequences are related but not identical, so peptides are catalogued separately by species. Matching the peptide species to the experimental model matters when raising antibodies or running blocking controls, since cross-species reactivity cannot be assumed.
