What is mechano-growth factor?
MGF is a peptide corresponding to the C-terminal E domain of an alternatively spliced IGF-1 transcript, known as IGF-1Ec in humans. It is a distinct region of the precursor rather than the mature IGF-1 peptide itself.
Why is it called mechano-growth factor?
The name comes from early reports that expression of the corresponding splice variant rises in skeletal muscle following mechanical loading or damage. The label describes that observed expression pattern rather than an established receptor or mechanism.
Does MGF act through the IGF-1 receptor?
Published studies generally report that E-peptide effects appear separable from classical IGF-1 receptor signalling, and no specific receptor has been agreed. Mechanistic interpretations in this area should therefore be treated as provisional and assay-dependent.
