GPCR Receptor Fragment Peptides — frequently asked

What are GPCR fragment peptides?
They are short synthetic peptides matching defined residue ranges of G protein-coupled receptors, such as an extracellular loop or a C-terminal tail. They represent parts of the receptor protein itself rather than the endogenous ligands that activate it.
Why do many entries begin with [Cys0]?
An added N-terminal cysteine is a conjugation handle, not a native residue. It allows the peptide to be coupled through a defined point to carrier proteins for immunisation or to a resin for affinity purification, keeping the rest of the sequence available.
What are these fragments typically used for?
Common applications include generating and affinity-purifying anti-receptor antibodies, running preadsorption and blocking controls in staining or blotting experiments, and epitope mapping. Antibodies raised this way should still be validated against native receptor material before use.
