What is GLP-2?
GLP-2 is a 33-residue peptide produced by intestinal L cells from the proglucagon precursor, alongside GLP-1, glucagon and oxyntomodulin. It signals through the class B GLP-2 receptor and is rapidly degraded by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 in its native form.
Why are GLP-2 analogs offered instead of the native peptide?
Native GLP-2 is cleaved quickly by DPP-4, which complicates experiments that need a stable ligand. Substituted forms such as [Arg34]-GLP-2 and glycine-substituted analogs resist that cleavage and are widely used in receptor and cell culture studies.
What is GLP-2 studied for?
Animal and cell studies associate GLP-2 with intestinal mucosal growth, crypt proliferation, barrier integrity and nutrient handling. Researchers use these peptides in receptor pharmacology, epithelial and organoid culture, and immunoassay development for gut peptide quantification.
