What is FNDC5?
FNDC5 is a single-pass transmembrane protein containing a fibronectin type III domain. Cleavage of its extracellular region releases the secreted fragment known as irisin, which is why the two names appear together throughout the research literature.
Why are FNDC5 fragments useful?
Numbered fragments let researchers target regions inside or outside the irisin portion, which matters when distinguishing the precursor from the cleaved product. They serve as immunogens, blocking peptides, epitope mapping tools and immunoassay calibration standards.
Which species are available?
