What is FDC-SP?
FDC-SP is a small secreted protein first identified in follicular dendritic cells of lymphoid germinal centres. Expression has also been reported in periodontal ligament and salivary tissue, and the mature protein lacks the structural motifs of classical cytokine families.
Why is FDC-SP researched?
Published studies describe effects on B cell responses in culture and possible involvement in periodontal ligament maintenance. Because no receptor has been definitively identified, work in this area is exploratory and conclusions remain specific to individual experimental systems.
