Endotrophin — frequently asked

What is endotrophin?
Endotrophin is a peptide released by proteolytic cleavage of the C5 domain of the collagen VI alpha 3 chain. It is regarded as a matrikine, meaning a signalling fragment derived from a structural extracellular matrix protein.
Why is endotrophin studied?
Most published work concerns adipose tissue, where it has been examined in relation to fibrotic remodelling, inflammation and metabolic parameters in mouse models. It has also been assessed as a candidate marker of collagen VI turnover.
Which species and formats are available?
Human and mouse sequences are both listed, reflecting the frequent use of rodent models in this field. Unlabeled synthetic peptide and iodine-125 labeled versions are supplied, the latter for quantitative binding or tracing experiments.
