Drosophila Insulin-Like Peptides (DILP) — frequently asked

What are DILPs?
DILPs are Drosophila insulin-like peptides, the fruit fly counterparts of insulin and insulin-like growth factors. Eight members are described, most built from A and B chains cleaved from a single precursor and linked by conserved disulfide bonds.
Do all DILPs use the same receptor?
Most reported work places DILP1 to DILP7 upstream of the single Drosophila insulin receptor. DILP8 is an exception, described as signalling through a leucine-rich repeat G protein-coupled receptor to coordinate developmental timing with tissue growth.
Why are alternative chain pairings listed?
Entries such as DILP3 (A29/B25) and the DILP5 DB variant reflect different processing points or chain lengths reported for the mature peptide. Supplying the alternatives lets researchers compare activity between the forms in receptor and in vivo assays.
