CXorf67 / EZHIP — frequently asked

What is CXorf67?
CXorf67 is the original designation for a human X chromosome gene product now usually called EZHIP, and sometimes CATACOMB. It is a largely unstructured protein with restricted normal expression, reported mainly in germ cells and placental tissue.
What is EZHIP reported to do?
Published studies describe it as an inhibitor of Polycomb repressive complex 2, the complex that methylates lysine 27 of histone H3. A short conserved region is reported to engage the catalytic subunit and reduce methyltransferase activity.
What is the (255-268) fragment used for?
The fragment lies within the conserved region of interest and is used as an immunogen, as a blocking peptide for antibody validation, and as a competitor or substrate in in vitro methyltransferase and binding assays rather than in cells.
