CSBF / C10orf99 Peptides — frequently asked

What does CSBF stand for?
CSBF stands for colon-derived SUSD2 binding factor, the secreted peptide encoded by the human C10orf99 gene. The same product also appears in the literature under the names GPR15L and, in skin research, as an epithelial antimicrobial peptide.
Why is this peptide studied?
It has been described as a chemotactic ligand for the GPR15 receptor, with proposed roles in lymphocyte recruitment to colonic and skin epithelium, and separately as a direct antimicrobial peptide. Both lines of work remain relatively recent.
Are the different names the same molecule?
They generally refer to the same C10orf99 gene product, but naming has varied across fields and publication dates. Confirming the exact sequence and residue numbering used in a given paper is advisable before comparing results between studies.
