What is CNP?
C-type natriuretic peptide is a member of the natriuretic peptide family, supplied mainly as the 22-residue CNP-22 and the longer CNP-53. It contains the characteristic disulfide-bonded ring but lacks the C-terminal tail found in ANP and BNP.
How does CNP differ from ANP and BNP?
CNP is generally described as acting through the NPR-B receptor rather than NPR-A, and as functioning largely in local paracrine settings such as endothelium and cartilage, rather than in the systemic volume and pressure regulation associated with ANP and BNP.
Which species variants exist?
CNP-22 is highly conserved and is often supplied as a single sequence covering human, rat, mouse, porcine, bovine and monkey. Distinct non-mammalian sequences, including frog CNP, are offered separately, as are species-specific prepro-CNP fragments.
