CMR-1 Receptor Fragment Peptides — frequently asked

What does CMR-1 refer to?
CMR-1 is an older designation for the cold and menthol receptor, a temperature-sensitive transient receptor potential cation channel now more usually catalogued as TRPM8. The peptides here reproduce short defined regions of that receptor sequence.
Are these peptides functional channel ligands?
No. They are linear sequence fragments of the receptor protein itself, not agonists or antagonists. They are supplied as immunogens and affinity reagents, and would not be expected to reproduce the folded structure of the intact channel.
Why do entries carry a [Cys0] prefix?
The added N-terminal cysteine is a conjugation handle rather than a native residue. It allows the peptide to be coupled at a defined point to carrier proteins for immunisation, or immobilised on a resin for affinity purification of antibodies.
