CCHamide — frequently asked

What are CCHamides?
CCHamides are insect neuropeptides named for their two conserved cysteines, a carboxy-terminal histidine and an amide group. Two members, CCHamide-1 and CCHamide-2, are described, each with its own reported G protein-coupled receptor.
Why are free acid versions listed?
The free acid lacks the carboxy-terminal amide found in the mature peptide. Comparing amidated and free acid forms in a receptor assay is a standard control that confirms whether amidation is required for the activity being measured.
What are CCHamides studied for?
Published work in Drosophila and other insects associates them with feeding behaviour, nutrient sensing in the gut, and regulation of insulin-like peptide expression, with downstream effects reported on growth rate and the timing of development.
