Cathepsin Peptides & Antibodies — frequently asked

What is cathepsin S?
Cathepsin S is a lysosomal cysteine protease of the papain superfamily, produced as a preproenzyme and activated by propeptide removal. It is reported to remain active at near-neutral pH, which distinguishes it from many related cathepsins and supports extracellular roles.
Why is cathepsin S studied?
Reported involvement in invariant chain processing during MHC class II antigen presentation, extracellular matrix turnover, and inflammatory and nociceptive signalling makes it a frequent subject in immunology and pain research, and a target for specific detection reagents.
What do these peptide products do?
They are defined sequence fragments of the human enzyme, such as the propeptide region 34-57 and mature-domain region 298-331. They serve as immunogens, blocking peptides and epitope standards for antibody work, not as catalytically active enzyme or as substrates.
