Augurin (ECRG4) — frequently asked

What is augurin?
Augurin is the secreted product of the ECRG4 gene, also known as C2orf40. It is made as a precursor, prepro-augurin, that is reported to be cleaved into shorter peptides, several of which are available here as defined synthetic human fragments.
Why is augurin studied?
Interest comes from its expression in the choroid plexus and cerebrospinal fluid and from reports that ECRG4 expression is reduced in various tumours. Published studies examine proliferation, senescence and innate immune endpoints, though its receptor remains unidentified.
Why are fragments listed by residue number?
Because the precursor is processed at several positions, residue numbering is the unambiguous way to state which segment a reagent targets. Fragment-specific peptides and antibodies let researchers distinguish precursor from processed forms in the same sample.
