Anginex — frequently asked

What is anginex?
Anginex is a designed synthetic peptide, not a natural hormone. Its sequence was constructed to adopt a beta-sheet fold based on motifs from antiangiogenic proteins, and it is described as self-associating into larger assemblies in solution.
What does anginex bind?
Published work identifies galectin-1, a carbohydrate-binding protein found on activated endothelium, as its principal reported target. The peptide is therefore often used as a galectin-1 binding probe as well as in functional endothelial assays.
How is anginex used in the laboratory?
It is applied in endothelial proliferation, migration and tube formation assays, in binding and pull-down experiments with galectin-1, and as a labelled probe for imaging vasculature in research models. It is an experimental tool compound only.
