Adiponutrin (PNPLA3) — frequently asked

What is adiponutrin?
Adiponutrin is the PNPLA3 gene product, a lipid droplet-associated protein of the patatin-like phospholipase family. It is related to adipose triglyceride lipase but is regulated differently and its principal enzymatic role is still debated.
Why is PNPLA3 studied?
Interest stems largely from genetic association work linking a common sequence variant to hepatic lipid accumulation. Laboratory studies examine how the protein behaves on lipid droplets and how its expression responds to feeding and insulin.
What are the numbered peptides used for?
Peptides spanning defined residue ranges of the human sequence serve as immunogens, as blocking peptides for specificity controls, and as epitope-mapping reagents. Labeled antibodies raised against them support blotting, staining and immunoassay detection.
